Donald Trump: Leading America to Its Own Downfall

Donald Trump has always been a divisive figure. Loved by his followers and loathed by his critics, his time in power—and even his influence after leaving office—has been anything but ordinary. However, one undeniable reality is that Trump’s leadership has set America on a dangerous trajectory, one that threatens its democracy, economy, and global standing.

The Assault on Democracy

Trump’s relentless attacks on democratic institutions have weakened the very foundation of the United States. His refusal to accept election results, his promotion of baseless conspiracy theories, and his role in the January 6th Capitol riot have eroded trust in the electoral system. Democracy thrives on faith in institutions, and by spreading distrust, Trump has created a scenario where millions of Americans question the legitimacy of their own government.

A Broken Economy for the Middle Class

While Trump boasted about economic success, much of his policies favoured the ultra-rich and corporate elites. The tax cuts he championed in 2017 provided massive benefits to billionaires while increasing national debt. His trade war with China harmed American farmers and businesses, leading to price hikes and economic uncertainty. Even though some sectors boomed under his presidency, wealth inequality widened, leaving the middle class struggling.

America’s Global Decline

Trump’s “America First” policy isolated the country from global allies and diminished its influence on the world stage. He abandoned international agreements, alienated European partners, and engaged in erratic foreign policies that made the U.S. appear unreliable. By withdrawing from key climate accords and disregarding diplomacy, Trump positioned America as an unpredictable force rather than a global leader.

Normalising Lies and Division

Perhaps Trump’s most damaging legacy is the normalisation of misinformation and division. He turned political discourse into a battleground of “alternative facts,” fuelling partisan hatred and deepening societal divides. Rather than uniting the country, he thrived on chaos, making division a political strategy rather than a failure of leadership.

The Road Ahead

Trump’s influence continues to shape American politics, and the danger is far from over. With a potential comeback in 2024, the U.S. faces the risk of further erosion of democratic norms. Whether Americans will reject or embrace this path remains to be seen, but history will remember Trump as the man who led America closer to its downfall than ever before.
